TOUGH EXTERIOR

The chicks who wear the pants...

Give me a good pair of pants and watch my attitude transform. It's like that feeling when you put on your sunnies in the middle of a crowd on a sunny day. Instantly, you become the woman you want to be in that very moment. You capture the world!

The same feeling goes with a good pair-o-pants, am I right? There's something about a black leather trouser that just screams New York cool.

This pair isn't too tight, and isn't too loose. Yes, I drop them a little low on the crotch and exude my best Justin Bieber, but only because it just feels right. That, and they just won't fit any higher over my stubborn little thing called the 37 week baby bump.

In my SHOP THE LOOK section below, I've highlighted some of my favorite black leather trousers happening this moment for the season. The exact pair that I'm wearing is from the highly coveted HM x Balmain collection that, sorry sista, is so.beyond.sold.out. But these alternatives are pretty close...

So the big question... How do you feel when you wear the pants?!

SPRING INTO A BOHO MAXI

posted by Elshane on Mar 8 2016, under Fashion

With the turn of March comes the sparkly inevitable... spring fashion! Sunshine! Tan shoulders! Although it's still hard to justify a mini dress with sandals {as I scroll through instagram and watch all of my New Yorker chicks still fighting the snow}, I knew the perfect style recipe would be a maxi dress and seasonless boots.

These boots were a new score for me-- and I'm not sure how I've lived my entire life without them! Perfect for all seasons, this ankle boot has just the right heel to take me from day to night. Also, the purposely scuffed toe box makes them feel like a true treasure. Plus, for under $200, they're worth every penny!

This maxi dress is a sort of a laugh at myself kind of moment. It's obviously not a maternity dress, yet somehow my 37 week bump squeezed right on in! I didn't even size up. It's one of those mysteries that I just can't explain. Point of the story? It's seemingly perfect for not only every growing belly, but of course, every enviable flat abdomen out there.

I topped the look off with a personal favorite-- a Mexican woven backpack. Timeless, chic, and completely effortless, this bag is a staple for spring.

SHADOW STYLE

Calling all blue and green eyed gals!!!

I know colored eyeshadow was last seen in the garbage can of your bathroom circa '98, but I have a fresh spin on a color so bold yet neutral, that it will have you jumping out of bed in the morning to put your makeup on!

Pink eyeshadow is the new black jean. It sort of just goes with everything. Think of it as a neutral--notice this YSL palette that I'm currently crushing, how the pink colorway that I used in the bottom left corner is surrounded by its neutral partners.

It's particularly strong for blue and green eyes because it brightens and lightens the pigment in your eyes, turning your green or blue beauties into light crystal balls. It's pretty incredible to witness.

For a day at the office, I slab on the pink shadow with some light mascara and call it a day. It makes my baby greens pop off my face and speaks to the whole "no makeup, makeup" look perfectly.

At night, I add a strong cat eye line like shown above to give my lids some extra drama. Another option for night is to line your crease with the deep purple in the center of the palette.

I love this YSL palette because the colors surrounding the pink on the bottom left are incredible choices for highlighting and shading for your evening look.

Now go give your eyes a high drama update and try this eyeshadow trend today!

DASHING IN VELVET

What do you get when you put a snowstorm, a tight velvet (non-maternity, duh!) jumpsuit, some winter wonderland eye makeup, and an exaggerated faux ponytail all together? Only quite possibly the most fun moment of my entire pregnancy!

Who doesn't dream of being a balloon-sized snow bunny?! It was a grand moment, and I'll never forget it...

This jumpsuit is a staple in my (non-maternity) closet. I've worn her for everything from New Year's Eve dance parties, to conservative Shabbat dinners (oye vey), to date nights, and more. It's a feel good moment to be in a head-to-toe catsuit. And let me tell you, the feel good doesn't stop when you're sporting a bump. Fortunately she was stretchy enough to handle the 20 lb. expansion! Although she's three years old, Seven for all Mankind makes a nearly identical version right now. I'm almost tempted to buy a duplicate...

I had fun playing around with moderate winter wonderland makeup for this lewk. I'm always a big fan of an under the eye line-- it lightens and brightens and doesn't cut off your eye shape like if you were to do the same affect on the upper lid.

For this lewk I chose a NARS white kohl pencil as a base line, and then I followed the same line with a thin layer of my go-to Urban Decay Heavy Metal Liquid Liner (a sparkly dream), choosing the silver sparkles colorway to round out the "snowy" affect. Lastly, I applied a thin line of black liner around my entire eye to make the whites and silver sparkles truly POP! Ok, and of course I finished with some mascara and a brow pencil...

It was just enough to make me feel glam, without feeling overly done.

ICE BLUE ESSENTIALS

posted by Elshane on Feb 23 2016, under Fashion

Here I am trying to soak up every last minute of winter...

Sheer tights are my favorite way to accessorize a dress in winter season. They show off the leg, yet hide the non-existent tan! What more could you ask for? This Swiss dot pair is a go-to favorite of mine-- a staple with a black mini dress, or pop of color as shown in this lewk.

I added my favorite oversized fur because I'm trying to get as much use out of it as possible before this 80 degree Los Angeles weather sets in for good. While everyone around me is chasing the sun, I still have a few good fur moments to cherish! If I still lived in New York, my furs would get more miles than Runyon Canyon's hike on a Saturday morning. The sacrifice is real!

And then there's the dress... oh how I can't wait to re-wear this after my bump is gone! I've never been a huge fan of the tight dress with bump vibe, but I couldn't let this tweed beauty sit in my closet all season long without any action. She will be back this spring and worn as intended-- like the mod shift that she was always born to be! Did I mention she's currently on sale?

COLORS OF WINTER

posted by Elshane on Feb 17 2016, under Fashion

The notion of a dark winter wardrobe crashed as hard as the snow on this chilly Aspen day.

Winter threads should not be synonymous with darkness! Just because it takes an extra eight minutes in your hot morning shower to motivate, or an extra layering piece is required, or an extra slice of pizza requested, does not mean that darkness should prevail in this chilly time!

In fact, often the lighter the winter wardrobe, the chicer the look

Take for example, my mix-and-match of an off-white and grey faux leather and fur coat, mixed with a grey hat, stark white jeans, and a blush pink sweater. Each of these hues scream St. Barth's summer vacation! Yet, it works for winter... very well.

Test your devotion to chic winter style by investing in a wardrobe that will keep you classic from season to season. A year-round pair of perfect white jeans will do just that!

Oh, and hi! My Rebecca Minkoff booties that I'm wearing here, and haven't taken off all winter (and don't plan on taking off for all spring/summer either) are now 50% off here!

SPREAD LOVE

posted by Elshane on Feb 14 2016, under Baby/Motherhood

This Valentine's Day I want to share one of those great sayings that my mentor, Diane von Furstenberg, constantly reminded of us...

You must love yourself before you can love anyone else.

Cheers to this day of love! Eat the steak, buy the handbag, make the phone call, say the three words! Happy love day!

SPRING INTO SKIRTS

posted by Elshane on Feb 10 2016, under Fashion

This is a 180 twist from a typical Elshane lewk. An oversized sweater, swing skirt (stretchy for the 33 week bump thankfully) and some knee high booties isn't my typical approach. But as the weather warms yet February still deems winter attire, I found this look to be the perfect compromise

I added the fur bag as one last ode to cold weather, before my furs and knits and such go deep into hibernation. See, although you may be itching for spring, it's important to utilize the remainder of your winter wardrobe regardless of the weather. Why, you ask?

Soon enough, as the flowers start to sprout and the nights warm into spring, the need for these cold weather items will be completely exhausted. Finding new and "lighter" ways to wear these pieces is key for these remaining winter weeks. You'll thank yourself in the end-- for when real spring comes, you'll have a fresh crop of unworn clothing to wear!
